Pilates Teacher Training Program:
Program Description: Established 2011.
The Pilates Teacher Training Program at CORE Therapy & Pilates is a comprehensive program designed by certified manual Physical Therapist Stephen C Dunn, MPT, COMT, and master Pilates trainer Cheryl C Dunn. The program was developed for those practioners interested in obtaining or advancing the skills necessary to teach and offer interactive-therapeutic exercise and activities to patient and clients. The Complete Teacher Training Program (including Mat Certificate) is a 465 hour program composed of 7 modules ($4,900). A special 95 hour Pilates Mat Certification program of 3 modules is also available ($1300). Please contact us for prerequisites and more information.
INSTRUCTORS:
Stephen C Dunn, MPT, COMT graduated with a Masters in Physical Therapy from LSUMC in New Orleans in 1998 and received a certification in Manual Therapy from the Maitland-Australian Physiotherapy Association in 2003. Stephen is also a Certified Pilates Instructor (2002) and a Certified GYROTONIC® practitioner (2009).
Cheryl C Dunn, PMA®-CPT, is a master instructor and practitioner of the Pilates Method, and is a Certified Pre-Trainer in the GYROTONIC Expansion System® and a GYROKINESIS® Instructor as well. Cheryl has been offering continuing education courses for Texas practitioners at CORE for years and has also hosted international and renowned Pilates & GYROTONIC® Master Trainers during those years.
OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of the Pilates Teacher Training Program is to advance the skill-set of physical therapy practitioners as well as give an aspiring Pilates instructor a complete knowledge of the Pilates Method and how the body works through the system. In the program, practitioners will: (a) advance their understanding of biomechanics and human anatomy; (b) learn the full Pilates repertoire including how to properly cue a client using manual contacts and verbal cues; and (c) how to effectively implement a Pilates program within a clinical setting. Upon completion of the teacher trainig program, practitioners will be prepared to sit for the Pilates Method Alliance standardized test to gain the PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher credential, thus a certification to teach and instruct using the Pilates Reformer, Trapeze Table (Cadillac), Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Mat and some often used accessories, e.g. the Magic Circle, Foam Roller and Small Balls--A Pilates Mat Certification only, is also an option.

June 11, 2011. Fascial Anatomy: Study the "New Science of Anatomy." See video of fascia in a living person as well as the dissection from Thomas Myers know as Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians.
June 12, 2011. Essential Exercises & Assessment: Learn the fundamentals of Pilates with the current research of Physical Therapy and core stabilization. (This 2 day course over the first weekend can be taken alone for $450. Great for PT's, PTA's, OT's, COTA's, MT's and Pilates, Yoga or other movement instructors).
