Pilates

The Pilates method of body conditioning is a unique system that strengthens and tones muscles, improves posture, provides flexibility and balance, and unites mind with body. Joseph H. Pilates developed this method nearly a century ago. The original method of Pilates has since evolved into a safer form of Pilates.

The staff at CORE Therapy & Pilates includes Certified Pilates Instructors and a Licensed Physical Therapist that is also Pilates Certified. Trained in Santa Monica and Sonoma, California, our owners bring a new and different approach to authentic or classical Pilates in Austin. Your first session can be scheduled with a Physical Therapist to determine an appropriate plan that is not contraindicated to any existing injury or condition. After this initial evaluation of past medical history, it may be appropriate to begin Physical Therapy with Pilates Based Rehab under the direct supervision of a Physical Therapist or begin a personal training series aimed at specific needs of your body type with a Certified Pilates Instructor. CORE Therapy & Pilates and our certified instructors are recognized by the Pilates Method Alliance and use Balanced Body equipment.

Many exercise regimes are based on isolating muscles and working each area of the body individually. Pilates exercises treat the body as the integrated whole that it is. The Pilates philosophy focuses on training the mind and body to work together toward the goal of overall fitness. This unique and comprehensive approach to movement training explains its current popularity and renders it particularly applicable to orthopedic rehabilitation. Anyone can benefit from Pilates, from the injured to the most seasoned athlete.

Pilates for Pregnancy

Pilates can safely be performed up to the last few days before delivery in most cases. In the last trimester of pregnancy, a hormone is released to allow the pelvic bones to open and ligaments to slowly loosen. This allows a space for the fetus to pass through during birth. Pain in the lower back, pelvis or hips is often associated with this process. Pilates can teach you how to stabilize your abdominal’s with proper breathing and a mind body connection, which will help with low back pain. Pilates will teach these concepts to you and help tremendously with the delivery of the baby.
